Kay Nattrass

My current focus has been a visual riff on our flora and fauna. I seek to reinterpret the miracle of nature in my sculptures using mostly found material. My paintings also reflect my love of nature and have echoes of the Red Centre. 

My work has been influenced by what has oft been described as an "interesting life".  I initially studied Architecture, but was distracted by the urge to travel. I worked overseas for a decade including in Australian diplomatic missions in Africa, Europe and Asia, often in war-torn areas - always painting and  sculpting, and being influenced by the local cultures, indigenous arts and craft.  I have also travelled extensively in Outback Australia, treking in our red deserts, seeking out ancient and contemporary indigenous art,and absorbing and  being inspired by the brutal topography.

Exhibitions

My first first solo exhibition- "Re-Imagined" opened in June 2016 at the Cambridge Studio Gallery. The collection of sculptures was inspired by nature - using mixed media and found materials, deconstructed and re-imagined: offering unexpected interpretation of Australian flora and fauna.

In 2012 I was featured artist at the "Heart of Kingston Charitable Trust Exhibition.

2013: Featured artist/sculptor in a group exhibition at the Collingwood Gallery Melbourne.
