I am a self-taught artist and my creative journey began when I was fifteen, encouraged and inspired by my artistic parents. From the very beginning, I was drawn to the beauty of the natural world. Over the years this love has deepened into a practice that often focuses on Australian landscapes, florals, flowing streams, sunlit coastlines and of course my much-loved gum trees.
My paintings usually begin with drawing, which has always been the heart of my process. Sketches and close observation allows me to connect deeply with my subjects. I enjoy working with the traditional glazing method with oils, slowly building layers to create depth and light. I generally work across a few canvases at once, letting each piece develop at it's own pace. I also enjoy painting small sized pieces and miniatures as they allow me to capture the essence of larger scenes in an intimate way.
Exhibiting my work over the years has been a rewarding part of my journey and I feel very grateful that some of my paintings have found their way into both private and public collections. A special highlight for me was being invited to appear on the television program Colour In Your Life in 2015 with Graeme Stevenson, an experience I will always treasure. Teaching art was also a meaningful chapter of my life and although I no longer tutor, I still hold those memories with great fondness.
For me, painting is more than an artistic pursuit, it is a sanctuary. After the loss of my beloved mother, art became my greatest source of healing. Each brushstroke is a way of honouring her and of carrying forward the love and encouragement my entire family gave me. I paint with gratitude and I hope my work invites others to pause, reflect and find a quiet connection with nature.
